Lets start some conversation about PR on the dark side. How is the PR/marketing employment thriving or surviving in this new age of facebook/myspace/internet social networking? Are there more or less jobs in the advent of these new methods of PR?

Hi sister writers! I notice this seems to be a female coalition which is fine. I would like to know where I can get the tshirt "Freelance writer will write for coffee!" As well, I would like to see more dialog on this subject in this website. I see…

Profile Information

Name (First and last would be great, nickname if you must):
Lorraine Chambers
Your media affiliation:
Dubliner's Daughter columnist at www.emigrant.ie for Irish Emigrant Publications, Galway, Ireland

Co-host of Radio Chaos at http://www.woodyradio.com internet show on Sundays 2-4pm PST with DJ Larry aka Mr. Spin

Docent Center trainee for O.C. Performing Arts Center Oct. 2009 Volunteer tour guide for minimum 12 -one hour tours a year.

Alumni Radio support staff/radio host at KUCI 88.9FM at www.kuci.org for UC Irvine (past shows: Record Store Memories -public affair music interview hour from June 2008-April 2009, Emeraldwaves Radio Program with all styles of music from Ireland and Irish music from around the world from June - Dec. 2008)
Best media moment:
My first media moment is still one of my favourite. As a freshman at San Gabriel Mission High School, I was riding the public transit bus to school and I saw a film crew in front of the Mission cemetery. They were filming the TV show, Barnaby Jones. I went over to the set and introduced myself to Jed Clamplett aka Buddy Ebsen and I asked if I could interview him. I don't think I was officially in the school newspaper yet but I had my first story appointment!
Worst media moment:
As a radio host at KUCI, I had an interview in February 2009 with well known reggae historian and drum circle leader, Kiro Bigara of the African Corner store. There was only a generator operating the power at the college station due to weekend electrical maintenance work. Despite the limited resources we got through it even though there was only a little bit of natural light seeping into the doublewide trailer home of the radio station.
Journalist you most respect, and why:
Jim Washburn (BAM magazine, OC Weekly) has a writing style which is humanistic and filled with his passion for music. Whether he was reviewing a show or a band, he was an observer with a keen eye for the layers beyond the surface. Also, I am an admirer of Frank McCourt (RIP 2009 - author 'Angela's Ashes') and Thomas Kenneally - Australian Irish author/journalist (my former professor from UCI in the mid 90's).
Favorite publication, website, or blog:
I religiously read the OC Weekly every week, usually on Thursday, its publication day, from front to back, almost every word. The OC Weekly keeps me up with local news and events.
Advice you'd give to a college journalism student:
Daily read, write and dream while making those dreams real.
Current project:
Beside my Dubliner's Daughter column, I am compiling a book with the interview transcripts from my 11 months as host of the public affair show, Record Store Memories as well as my rock'n'roll life experiences married to a professional touring bassist during the 80's and my vast music related professional encounters. I would like to publish the book in time for Record Store Day in April 2010. Also, I am working on a book, The Irish Upholsterer's Daughter, which is my autobiography growing up Irish in So. California from the 60's to present day.
