PR people, myself included, are doing our best to keep up with the many changes in social media so we can offer them to our clients/bosses. Interestingly enough, many people in business that I've spoken to--especially over the age of 50--feel that i…

Lets start some conversation about PR on the dark side. How is the PR/marketing employment thriving or surviving in this new age of facebook/myspace/internet social networking? Are there more or less jobs in the advent of these new methods of PR?

Profile Information

Name (First and last would be great, nickname if you must):
Diane Pinnick
Your media affiliation:
Freelance writing and long-term, on-site PR/marketing
Best media moment:
Having a tough editor give me my first byline for a feature I submitted about a PR client. This led to my freelance writing for magazines and newspapers for the next 30 years.
Worst media moment:
Having my first LA Times travel piece pulled just before going to press.
Journalist you most respect, and why:
I had the privilege of working with both TV editor Aleene MacMinn and Pulitzer-Prize winning TV columnist Howard Rosenberg of the Los Angeles Times, who were my contacts when I was a TV publicist. They were fair, accurate, tireless, had a lyrical flair for writing and taught me a lot about good journalism.
Favorite publication, website, or blog:
I have to back the OC Register, my hometown paper.
Advice you'd give to a college journalism student:
Get the AP stylebook down pat and look for the uniqueness in your subject.

Diane - I think this is GREAT! The organization is supported so strongly by the "dark side" that it makes sense for you to have created this. Good luck!
